The People's Republic of China is the largest country in East Asia and the world's most populous with more than 1,300 million people (about one-fifth of the world population).
Within its territory hosts different types of landscapes and ecosystems, from prairies and steppes of Mongolia and Manchuria and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts, located in the dry north along the border with Mongolia and Russian Siberia, to subtropical forests located in the humid south, near Laos, Vietnam and Burma. In the west lie the high mountain ranges of the Himalayas and Tian Shan, who act as a natural border between China and India and Central Asia. The east side is bordered by a low coastline of 14,500 kilometers long washed by the South China Sea and East China Sea, which also washes the shores of the island of Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and Japan.
Gradually, the country has been becoming a world superpower, a factor that has increased in the last 20 years.
